Passes available to teachers and district employees!
Are you a school district employee, interested in attending this event, but don’t have the funding to cover the cost of your admission? We have a limited number of passes that are available to give away, so that you may attend the event. Please post your interest in the comments section of this blog posting, and we will follow up with you. You may provide us your email address, or contact us at dshaw@usgbc-centraltexas.org.
Our one and only condition to giving away these passes is that you promise to attend! We want to be sure that the limite number of passes that we give away will be used.
We look forward to seeing you on Monday!
GBCI courses APPROVED!
We received notification TODAY that 14 of our 16 sessions and building tours were APPROVED for continuing education credits with GBCI!
If you are a LEED Green Associate, a LEED AP with specialty, OR, if you are a legacy LEED AP looking to upgrade your certification through continuing education – these sessions will count towards these continuing education requirements.
Spend the day with us and fulfill up to SEVEN GBCI credits! The only two courses that did not receive/seek GBCI credits were the Programs Track’s “Resources Roundtable” and “Positively Effecting your Campus and Community with School Gardens”.
If you are a USGBC Central Texas – Balcones member, the event is only $100 for the six sessions and a building tour … that is less than $15/credit hour. What a great deal!
Stay tuned for updates on AIA and TEA continuing education approvals.
Thank you SPONSORS!!
We sincerely thank all of our event sponsors for their kind and generous donations to the Green School Symposium.
Because of their contributions, we are able to offer a scholarship program for school District employees to attend the conference. We will post more information on that later in the week … stay tuned for more details!

All Speaking Opportunities are now FILLED
At this time, we have filled all of the speaking opportunities for sessions for the 2011 Green School Symposium. Please check out the links posted to the Event Schedule and the Session Topics and Speakers and tab, to learn more about all of the sessions we’ll be offering this year.
Unfortunately, we were not able to maintain the ENERGY TRACK planned for this event. We hope to include this track in our event next year.
If you have a topic or session you’d like to submit for consideration for the 2012 symposium, please send an email to dshaw@usgbc-centraltexas.com.
GBCI Continuing Education Applications SUBMITTED!
The 2011 Green School Symposium is excited to announce that the conference has been submitted to the Green Builing Certification Institute (GBCI) for continuing education course approval. We anticipate that we can offer up to SEVEN GBCI credits to our attendees, if they attend the entire conference and the building tour. Approval is still pending. Please check in for updates in the coming weeks.
Until final approval is received, all courses listed on this blog will show a PENDING GBCI continuing education credit description.
Next week, we will submit the courses to AIA and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for approval.
Approval is still pending. Please check in for updates in the coming weeks.
Save the Date!!
As the Chair of the USGBC Central Texas – Balcones Chapter (USGBC CT-B) Green Schools Committee, I’d like to extend a personal invitation to all of you to attend the Green School Symposium on October 10, 2011.
The event returns to San Antonio this year, at the LEED Gold certified Cibolo Green Elementary School. A building tour will immediately follow the learning session, and is included in the cost of admission.
Tracks will be oriented towards school design (architects, engineers, and contractors), curriculum (teachers and administrators), building maintenance (facilities managers), and healthy students (nutrition, school gardens, recreation programs).
Our committee is currently collecting speaker names and topics for the event. At this time, we have confirmed Representative Eddie Lucio III to give the Legislative Update, and Emily Knupp from USGBC National’s Center for Green Schools to discuss national initiatives and resources. We will post speaker bios and topics on this blog as they are signed on.
Sessions will be submitted to GBCI for CMP hours for our LEED APs, as well as to AIA for CEU credits.
Kindest regards,
C. Denise Shaw, USGBC CT-B Green Schools Committee Chair
